My heart breaks for the fans of the Detroit Lions, who coughed up a devastating loss in one of two exciting football games yesterday.
Growing up in New England, I spent my childhood lamenting the Red Sox’s World Series drought. Of course, we Massholes have been rewarded in the 21st century with 12 titles across the four major sports.
But I remember how ultra-important it felt that the sportsball team from our region beat the sportsball team from another region.
I dimly remember an Andy Rooney bit on 60 Minutes where he said (paraphrasing) that sports simultaneously feel like the most important thing in the universe, yet also mean absolutely nothing.
But certainly a bad feeling this morning for the Detroit fans. Sorry, guys!
