2010

I rewatched 2010: The Year We Make Contact. I always liked this movie. It might be Peter Hyams’ best. Great cast, spectacular VFX, very handsome and watchable and entertaining. I like the mostly electronic score by David Shire, with programming by Craig Huxley.

It has the same problem it has had from day one, which is that nothing compares to the transcendent work of art that is Kubrick’s 2001. But discounting that, it’s excellent. Maybe one of the best “hard sci-fi” films ever made.

It hurts my head a bit trying to figure out exactly when and where the gravity (from centrifugal force) should apply on those ships. Some of it makes no sense.

Roy Scheider was such a winning and unique star.

The Soviet stuff has dated terribly but looking at current events, maybe not so much? Sigh...

Wouldn’t having that second Jovian sun destroy Earth’s climate? Whoops.

Always love listening to Douglas Rain as HAL. The movie would have been impossible without his iconic voice.
