Wow! Big Sale Day
Thank you for all your orders from yesterday’s CD sale of The Richard Kraft Collection. Above is the two-inch-thick stack of orders I have to pull! This will take a few days. There’s still thousands more amazing film music CDs (and other things) in stock! Here is an updated spreadsheet, and go to FSMCDs.com to order. By the way, we routinely combine multiple orders into a single shipment and refund the excess shipping cost (unless instructed not to). We’ll take care of you! A

The Richard Kraft CD Sale
We are LIVE at FSMCDs.com with the Richard Kraft CD Collection! Here is the spreadsheet of inventory—which does NOT update as items sell, so if you see it on the spreadsheet but not at the site, that’s why. Please log in to your account at FSMCDs.com BEFORE you shop! We’ve had people put a bunch of stuff in their cart, and then log on, only to find the cart somehow starting from scratch. We’re working to fix all this stuff but make it easier on yourself and login! I am prayin

100 Years of Elmer Bernstein
Ahead of Tuesday’s huge sale, we’ve added 6 copies we have in stock of 100 Years of Elmer Bernstein, a beautifully produced 3CD set from Willow & Cavern of a Peter Bernstein-conducted concert. We also have 3 more copies of the program book. I don’t expect them to be around very long.

Rosemary’s Baby
I rewatched some of Rosemary’s Baby on AMC—to quote Minnie Castavet, “Ugh, ads.” What a masterpiece. I never grow tired of it. When I was learning how to write I was given the assignment to watch it like five times. You have to get over the first watch, when you’re swept up in it, in order to study the details. I could go on and on. Polanski is a genius.

My Substack
Last week I was like, man I really need to start a Substack. So I went to the platform and was like, huh, looks like I already signed up. Then I was like, oh, looks like I already started one and wrote 3–4 columns. Great! Well, here’s a new piece about how dumb all the screenwriting “companies” are.

Roddenberry Archive
Looks like there’s a big-time update to the Roddenberry Archive from OTOY coming soon, with more of the 3-D interiors aboard the ships. Can’t wait!

Farewell to the Shenandoah
A bit of hometown news: the topsail schooner Shenandoah has made her last sail. Coverage here from the Vineyard Gazette. I was one of the many thousands of lucky island schookids to spend a week aboard her, in sixth grade. That’s me above with my dad, who was a chaperone, and our teacher, John Budris, at right. The boat was built by the late Bob Douglas in 1964 and had a wooden hull and no engine whatsoever—a true sailboat. We have been friends with the Douglas family since t

The Lost World
I remember not thinking much of The Lost World at the time—it seemed rather contrived, like nobody was pretending otherwise—but I find I listen to the expanded CD a lot. I always loved the theme, but I feel like I can hear the glee that John Williams found in evoking all the old jungle tropes. He lays down these percussion grooves and then goes nuts with the orchestra on top: You can make the connection between this and Lost in Space, but it’s so much bigger and more sophisti

K, Wait in the Truck
Writing about The Mandalorian and Grogu yesterday, I am reminded of something I heard (can’t locate where) about the development of Andor. Initially the showrunner was going to be Stephen Schiff (The Americans), and the concept a kind of Butch and Sundance “continuing adventures of” buddy show with Andor and K-2SO—because K-2SO stole the show in Rogue One. Quite a lot of development work was done. At some point they asked Tony Gilroy what he thought—and I don’t want to paraph

Mando and Grogu
I caught up with this on Disney+. Two thoughts... This is what happens when you have a lead who doesn’t show his face and a co-lead who doesn’t talk. You just don’t have the connective human tissue for a feature film. You need the scene where Bond sits down to dinner with Dr. No. Where he seduces the bad guy’s girlfriend. Where he pretends to be the salesman to infiltrate the lair. That’s what makes the action scenes pay-off. And I know they have versions of these scenes, but

Horner Sessions at Smecky
Thanks to everybody who supported our Kickstarter for the James Horner TV music album: A Few Days in Weasel Creek, Angel Dusted, A Piano for Mrs. Cimino, and “The Pied Piper of Hamelin” from Faerie Tale Theatre. The recording sessions are coming up on October 8, 9 and 10 at Smecky Studios in Prague. Several donors qualified to attend the sessions are going (I can’t make it, sorry), and I suppose you’ll meet each other there, but if you want to connect ahead of time, please us

Coming in Two Weeks: The Richard Kraft Collection
Going on sale in two weeks, September 29, 2026 at 10AM Pacific / 1PT Eastern is that monster colleciton I’ve been hinting at: THE RICHARD KRAFT COLLECTION, from longtime film composer agent/manager extraordinaire (seen above in the early 1990s, photobombing then-clients Henry Mancini and Jerry Goldsmith). Richard is a HUGE lover of film music, friend to the community, and MASSIVE collector—you may remember hearing about his Disney collection that he auctioned several years ag

Buddy
Unicorn thumbs way up for Buddy, the demented feature film debut of my new idol, Casper Kelly. In case you haven’t heard, this is a send-up of Barney where the star of the kids’ show is emotionally unstable, prone to murder, and holds the kids (and some adults) hostage in an alternate dimension (sort of like Backrooms, oddly) that consists a banal 1990s kids’ show. The various teasers online withhold the true extent of the violence, swearing and insanity that this movie conta

Supergirl 2026
The new Supergirl was on HBOMax so I was like, how bad can this be? By that measure, it’s not bad at all. Milly Alcock, who I loved in Game of Thrones, is great. Matthias Schoenaerts is a fabulous actor, even under crazy makeup. I think a lot of the bad buzz came from the usual “bro crowd” who don’t like a girl beating up dudes in a movie. It may be that stupid, but that’s where we are. I understand this was based on a well-regarded comic series, Woman of Tomorrow, but it’s n

SampleTon & Fragger Applescripts
Our friend Wade Riddick has been working on custom software designed to help collectors and fans manipulate their lawfully purchased music tracks. It’s a way to program your own sequences by using the software to reorder tracks into smaller musical selections and create new edit points. Here is a manual which explains it better than I can! He’s looking for beta testers, email me if you might be interested and I’ll connect you: LukasKendallMV@gmail.com. Thanks!
