Best of FSM Book

ree

We are putting together the Best of FSM 35th Anniversary book and getting new introductions by some of our favorite writers.

Andy Dursin has kindly contributed one and mentioned something that struck me about his teenage days collecting: he once bought the MCA CDs of The Russia House and Edward Scissorhands at the record store on the same day.

We spent the 1990s complaining about how things were going downhill but it’s incredible to think of a time when both these classic scores were brand new and you’d just go and pick them up at the local store. (Nowadays—what’s a local store?)

Yes, these times are long gone… even specialty shops have vanished. Wow it was a great time standing in front of huge rows of film music CDs (and LPs… in the 80s) and picking 4, 5 new scores by big names.

God, I miss picking up music, movies and books in an actual brick & mortar store.
