Continuing from yesterday, let me run through our list of inventory at FSMCDs.com in the hopes of getting these great albums (and good bargains) out of my house, and into yours!
Across the Crystal Sea: I have only recently gotten into Claus Ogerman, the outstanding German composer/arranger/conductor known for his luscious yet always tasteful orchestrations, particularly for strings. Across the Crystal Sea is a 2008 album he arranged for Brazilian jazz pianist Danilo Perez. We have the U.S. release on EmArcy for $18. Gorgeous!
Across the Stars: We have two sealed digipak copies of the 2019 John Williams/Anne-Sophia Mutter album, Across the Stars. While a lot of film music compilations are “just” re-recordings of familiar themes, this one features Williams reimagining some of his famous (and less famous) pieces to spotlight solo violin. $12
Advise and Consent: This is one of Jerry Fielding’s first film projects, when he was rescued from the black list by Otto Preminger. It’s terrific! More tonal and accessible compared to a lot of Fielding’s later, more experimental work. We have two copies of the Kritzerland release (here and here), $18. A track I’ve always loved:
Affliction: I’ll be honest, I haven’t listened to this album in many years. But I remember seeing the Paul Schrader film (starring Nick Nolte) and being quite taken by it. We have two copies of the pulsating, textural score by Michael Brook, released by Citadel at the time, here and here, for only $8.
Africa: We still have two copies of the Alex North documentary score, Africa, for $12 each, here and here.
The Age of Innocence: This gorgeous Elmer Bernstein period score is a must. Only $3.
Aladdin: The Legacy Collection: I’m not a Disney collector but these hardbound book editions, “The Legacy Collection,” look very nice. This one, for Aladdin (the animated film), is hard to come by. $55
Alive: We have the Intrada expanded edition of this James Newton Howard score. It’s typtical $50 and up on eBay, we have our one copy priced at $45.
The Alphabet of Revelation: This is a large-scale, symphonic concert work by composer/orchestrator J.A.C. Redford, released on a private label. It sounds like a big 1980s symphonic film score! $18
The Amazing Mr. Blunden: We have one copy of the Intrada release (sold out at their store) of this vintage Elmer Bernstein score, $25.
More tomorrow!
