Generational Change
Posted on LinkedIn this morning... It feels like there’s a generational turnover happening in entertainment. The old stuff isn’t connecting. Movie stars don’t mean anything. Young people (my tweener kids) don’t watch movies or television. “All this has happened before, and will happen again”—thanks BSG! And Bill Goldman: “Nobody knows anything.” Remember those 1960s studio musicals that bombed, and then Easy Rider cleaned up? (I do, because I know history.) A.I. isn’t the a

FSMCDs Monday
We will go live at FSMCDs.com with a small lot of titles (nearly 200) Monday morning at 10AM Pacific, November 3, 2025. It’s good stuff, nothing super rare, but around a third of it are Goldsmith titles. Thanks and looking forward!

Brick by Brick
We have the message board functioning so that it’s usable. We’re now working on FSM Online. And by “we” I mean the programmer. I don’t understand this stuff at all! That will be done next, and then we’ll go back and refine things and eventually it will be working. Thanks for supporting the Kickstarter to make this happen!

Boarding
It dawned on us that everybody liked the old board, so we’re trying to make the new board look and feel more like the old board. Thank you for your patience. I wish we had a dozen people working on it round the clock, but the truth is, it’s pretty much one person, and he’s on it every day. We’ll get there!

Site Down Today
I woke up to a few very confused emails from people who logged into the new message board only to find other people’s posts/account/history were coming up as their own. Fun! It was a “caching” issue, having to do with memory short-cuts the site uses to work faster. There is no danger of your info actually being combined with anybody else’s, or security problems—just data that was scrambled in the outputs. Nonetheless I can see how this is concerning. The site is down today wh

Symbiosis in Wolf’s Rain
I’ve written before how much a fan I am of Yoko Kanno, particularly Cowboy Bebop , Macross Plus, Ghost in the Shell and Wolf’s Rain . Wolf’s Rain was a weird anime show created by Keiko Nobumoto from the Cowboy Bebop team, about mystical wolves in a post-apocalyptic fantasy world who can appear as human...very strange and beautiful. So the thing about Yoko Kanno—she’s a genius, but she does use a lot of other music as models. You can hear—oh, that’s the Sting track, that’s

The Slow Blade Penetrates the Shield
It’s Saturday morning and I know the FSM site is down. They’re working on it and it’ll be back soon. It’s just going to be a couple of weeks as all the site functionality is implemented. We will get there, I promise! Thanks for your patience and understanding.

The Chair Company
I watched the first episode of The Chair Company , a weird new HBO show that mixes comedy and thriller—a combo I don’t remember seeing before. I need to watch more to say anything useful. I was struck by the opening music of the pilot, which they use at least one more time, and I knew it must be a needle-drop. Not because I recognized it—it’s the opening of the classic 1970s instrument “Breezin’” by George Benson—but because the silky orchestration comes from another era enti

Kickstarter Pledge Manager
Hi everybody. I just posted this to Kickstarter: Hello FSM Supporters! Thank you for funding our Kickstarter. Because of YOU we have launched the redesigned website at www.filmscoremonthly.com . It's not done, and we are making improvements daily, but it is up and running. All donors should have received the Kickstarter “pledge manager” yesterday, asking for your address and to collect postage and (for non-U.S. donors) duties as well. I have an explanation, a favor, and a pr

FSM New Site, More CDs and Kickstarter News
UPDATE 1:30PM: Our Pledge Manager was approved by Kickstarter so we’ve launched it to begin collecting addresses, shipping and tax for the campaign. Thanks! Things are moving and a lot to announce! First, I have quietly added 440 new listings to www.FSMCDs.com . I know I have always given advance warning as to when these would go up. For a bunch of timing reasons, I didn’t have a “runway” to do that this time. So an experiment (and because I need the sales, I’ll explain below

Farewell Klaus Doldinger
I just saw that Klaus Doldinger has passed, age 89 . His scores to Das Boot and The NeverEnding Story are excellent. I love his “flying” music to the latter. I’m sure he did many more wonderful things that I’m just not aware of. Farewell.

Getting There
You can expect to see daily progress on improving the message board . I know it’s frustrating when things don’t work. Nobody is more frustrated than I am, because I’m responsible for it all and took YOUR money on our Kickstarter to make it work. But we will get this resolved, I promise! One thing I want everybody to keep in mind please: When we went out to various web companies to get a quote on making a new message board, the idea of saving our 25 years’ worth of posts was a

Gen V Season 2
I’m continuing to enjoy the demented, graphic world of The Boys , now with season 2 of Gen V coming to a close. Very cool twist about the bad guy! I was so into the X-Men as a kid, and now this is like a sicko anti-fascist X-Men for our time. Very dark satire but with a light sheen. Yay!

Bear With Us
The new FSM site is live but obviously there’s a lot of stuff not working right. This is not how I wanted this transition to go. In fact, it’s the opposite. The tech guys are doing their best and are behaving with the utmost professionalism. None of this would be happening if they hadn’t been willing to take us on at a significant discount of what programming usually costs. And I have no doubt they’ll get everything straightened out and we’ll have a first-rate board for our

Thanks for Your Patience
The new FSM site is live and functional. It is by no means done! Please see the feedback post on the new board and contribute your thoughts. The tech guys have a lot they are doing, but it’s on our list to go through methodically and address all of the questions and issues. Thank you!

It’s the Admin Password
Folks, sincere apologies. No, your password doesn’t work on the new FSM site, it needs the admin password and they are still fixing some things. You know the production triangle: fast, cheap or good, you can have two. So we’re foregoing fast. We’re so incredibly lucky to have this web company do this for us (I’ll introduce them later) because otherwise it would have been completely unaffordable. Thanks for your patience. I think the site should be up soon but I’m waiting for
