The screenwriting website Coverfly announced they are shutting down later this year. This is on the heels of a bunch of their sister companies closing. Here’s a piece on it.
My theory is that with the contraction going on in the film and TV business, the parent company ran the numbers and decided it wasn’t worth it anymore.
Coverfly was actually pretty useful, offering writers a free place to host their scripts—as a “loss leader” to sell expensive and largely worthless contest entries and “services.”
I’ve written about “the hope industry” before...needless to say, I am not a fan.
I would like to build my own free site just to tank the business of the other places that prey on eager, gullible writers.
