Farewell to Recordman

We are putting together the Best of FSM 35th Anniversary book and I am reaching out to contributors from days of yore.
Of course I remembered Recordman and his “friend” who so kindly chronicled his vinyl-collecting adventures, R. Mike Murray. I used to delight in his columns, and he was so generous and friendly in his correspondence and occasional calls.
I was a little worried because we hadn’t been in touch for a while, and I knew him to be an older fellow.
Sad to say, Mike recently passed—on my birthday, actually—at 82. Here is the online obituary.

I have so many fond memories of him and his columns. He had a natural wit and made the world of vinyl collecting so fun and endearing.

Thank you for a wonderful publication and for providing my father with a great circle of friends to spend his free time and collective knowledge with. He always spoke very highly of you and I am still in the process of working my way through many many many boxes of soundtracks and memorabilia. I have come across most of your paper issues and have thoroughly enjoyed reading them. My father loved any and all music (with the exception of rap and country).
