The great Disney songwriter Richard Sherman has died.
By the time I was born, most of his famous songs had already been written, so it felt like they had always existed—like folk songs, somehow. Just a part of the universe that had always been there.
But no, they were all handcrafted by Richard and Robert Sherman. It would be amazing enough to come up with one catchy song—let alone dozens. What an incredible achievement—and legacy.
I found the Varese issue of "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" at a thrift store for 99 cents a few months ago. A bit repetitive, but I think it was a favorite of my sister's, so it's a bit special to me. Godspeed, Richard Sherman.
