As I type the listings for Jeanne Jones’ collection, I am encountering price tags from our legendary soundtrack past...Jeanne sure got around!

Footlight Records in lower Manhattan was mindblowing for a soundtrack collector in the 1980s and ’90s. Their phone number is still burned into my memory.

This was before the Internet, so there was no IMDB or discogs. They stocked out-of-print and import LPs and CDs and you’d flip through the racks and discover things you always wanted that you had no idea existed.

There really is no equivalent experience nowadays.

They carried FSM from my early black-and-white days and helped me build an audience. I see I am repeating myself on this blog—but if anybody deserves it, it’s Footlight!
