Scott Dunn Orchestra 1970s Concert Last Night

I had such a good time last night at the Scott Dunn Orchestra’s 1970s film music concert in Beverly Hills! Great renditions of classics like Chinatown, Superman and Jaws, but also a lot of rarely played pieces: Time After Time by Miklós Rózsa (with filmmaker Nick Meyer in the audience), The Taking of Pelham One Two Three and The Conversation by David Shire—and the encore was David’s “Manhattan Skyline” from Saturday Night Fever. I’m sure you can find a proper report/review online in due course.

David Shire was a special guest and it occurred to me that in all the time I’ve known him and adored his music, I’ve never taken a picture with him. So I asked his wife Didi Conn to snap the above. You might want to amuse yourself by noting the background: that’s Robert Townson (best known for his thousands of albums at Varèse Sarabande) and Dominic Keating (Malcolm Reed from Star Trek: Enterprise). For some reason, there have been a lot of Star Trek alumni at these concerts.

I also caught up with some of the FSM crew: L-R Jeff Bond, me, Tim Greiving, Al and Jon Kaplan. I think the moody, threatening lighting is appropriate.

The final concert in the Scott Dunn Orchestra series at the Wallis is May 30th, of Golden Age film music.

Many thanks to Scott and his orchestra and team for a wonderful evening!
