Macross DYRL
I have been looking into A.I. filmmaking for its capabilities to do space-oriented visual effects. It seems inevitable that a lot of VFX will soon be done with A.I. being utilized to some degree. I’ll reserve my judgments as I’m still learning.
But I do want to say that some of my all-time favorite space imagery comes from anime, and in particular the 1984 Macross film, Do You Remember Love? (This is the Japanese feature film encapsulation of the Macross series that was later incorporated into the American Robotech.)
The way the Japanese artists handle the mecha, the light and shadows, the weight of the objects—it feels more real to me than anything I’ve seen in A.I.
There are definitely a lot of lessons to be learned here.
