Holy moly. Check out this new YouTube analysis by Patrick Suiter on the “Helicopter Rescue” from John Williams’ score to Superman: The Movie (1978):
A good time to remember: this score is so awesome, there wasn’t even room for this (absolutely unforgettable) piece on the double-LP soundtrack album in 1978!
I could take a month studying this analysis and still not grasp everything.
It’s 45 years later (!) and comic book movies still haven’t improved on this one.
Kudos to Dick Donner, Tom Mankiewicz, Christopher Reeve, Margot Kidder, Williams and all the others for getting it so right.
