The Work Begins

Thank you all for your enthusiasm and responses to our “save the date” Kickstarter (June 10th) announcement yesterday.

Two questions have come up: whether the new FSM CD will be the first of many or just a one-off. As of now, there are only plans for one.

Also there’s some talk about having the board configured for mobile platforms, and my answer is, of course! It’s all about how much money we raise.

One thing I’ve learned in the 35 years of doing this is that there is a small but intensely loyal following of fans and collectors who will support CDs and related productions.

But it’s always a little scary... because everything is scary (another thing I’ve learned), whether you’re making films or running a restaurant, you’re always worried about the audience/customers being there to justify your investment.

It happens every time I get a new collection in to sell: will this be the time that nobody cares and then I’m stuck with all this unsold stuff? So far it hasn’t happened, but I’m always afraid.

In order to make this Kickstarter work, we have to begin the process of making the perks now, before we even know if the campaign will be successful. And we have to make the campaign video, invest in publicity, etc.

Thank you for your continuing orders from FSMCDs! That cash flow is basically driving the Kickstarter campaign, so it’s always great for us when the orders pick up. Here is a spreadsheet of the current inventory.

Thank you for all your support!

Ah, but what everyone is desperate to know is ... will the new CD be 18.1 or 17.2? ;-)

Definitely 18.1, because Lukas starts new Volumes for new years. The Wild Bunch, the final regular FSM album before the CD label officially shut down, ended up as Vol. 16, No. 1 because it took longer than expected and came out in March 2013. (The one before it, King Kong, was Vol. 15, No. 5 because it came out in September 2012.) And then from Lukas's Indiegogo campaign for his short film many years later, the score for that was released as Vol. 17, No. 1. So to continue the pattern we are definitely arriving at Vol. 18.
