Star Trek Phase II Sets

As a lifelong Trekkie I’ve always been fascinated by the “show that wasn’t,” Star Trek Phase II—which became Star Trek: The Motion Picture circa 1977–78 when Paramount decided to abandon plans for a fourth TV network and instead make a Star Trek film.

Scripts were written and sets built, as chronicled in various books, magazine articles and websites. The TrekWorld YouTube channel has done an incredible job unearthing images from the aborted production, and debuted a new set of them in this video:

The pic I screencapped atop this blog post is the briefing room, resembling the one in TOS, which actually was built—it does not appear in ST:TMP. I had no idea it was actually built.

Great work on these videos!

I'm more interested in the making of these shows than I am in the actual shows. (For me there's the original series, and a couple of ok movies--the rest is just meh.)

Of course some of the sets were built. Where else would the Phase II test footage that was known to exist have been shot?
