Supergirl 2026

The new Supergirl was on HBOMax so I was like, how bad can this be?

By that measure, it’s not bad at all. Milly Alcock, who I loved in Game of Thrones, is great. Matthias Schoenaerts is a fabulous actor, even under crazy makeup.

I think a lot of the bad buzz came from the usual “bro crowd” who don’t like a girl beating up dudes in a movie. It may be that stupid, but that’s where we are.

I understand this was based on a well-regarded comic series, Woman of Tomorrow, but it’s not a good call making the first movie away from Earth. The planet-hopping, quasi-Star Wars world populated by Mad Max villains is both too familiar and too vague. And all the videogame fighting against fake backgrounds is a headache. SO BORING, MAKE IT STOP.

There is such a great Supergirl movie they could do and I don’t know why they didn’t do it: Kara is on Earth, trying to be the perfect superhero, rescuing babies and giving interviews, but behind-the-scenes she’s a disaster—for all the traumatic reasons (death of her parents and homeworld) that was nicely depicted in the movie they made. Then the real world finds out (leaked video) and she has to face the music—and herself.

I mean, that’s all you need, right? That’s a winner.

Did they already do that in another superhero movie, or on the Supergirl TV show? I don’t keep up with these things.

Also, please don’t have your character sleeping with her sunglasses still on her face (sideways) to show how drunk she was. I think she’d still take the glasses off before she passed out!
