Sky Fighter on Yow TV
Many thanks to Yow TV who have carried our Sky Fighter short film and did a social media push over the weekend. They are a free on-demand streaming service. I am getting over the surprise of having our anamorphic 16:9 short reformatted for vertical phone screens!

Thriller Vol. 3
Congrats to Leigh Phillips, with whom we’re working on our James Horner TV music album, on his new Kickstarter for a volume 3 of Jerry Goldsmith’s Thriller music. He very quickly made his initial goal, but having done some of these things, I can tell you how fast the money goes. Check out the campaign and hope you can contribute. Thanks!

I’ll be out of town for this, but the great Joe Hisaishi is at the Hollywood Bowl next weekend: “Join us July 21–23 at 8 PM for an unforgettable evening celebrating the legendary composer behind beloved Studio Ghibli classics like Princess Mononoke, My Neighbor Totoro, and Ponyo. Mancini Recording Project
Check out this playlist for Lefties Symphonies Through Time, a recording project of Henry Mancini themes and arrangements by Nazareno Bicocchi meticulously reconstructed by ear from the original performances. I can’t imagine the time that went into this—lovely work! Much more at the playlist link. And here’s a behind-the-scenes article on how it was all made.

Fireworks
I happened to be on the road last night around 9:30 and couldn’t believe the amount of fireworks going off—not shows, but people lighting their own. We hear them at night every New Year’s Eve and Fourth of July but I didn’t realize how many there are, all over LA. It felt like I was driving through a warzone. I made a turn in Boyle Heights and there were some guys lighting off big ones from the middle of the street. We used to light off a few firecrackers as kids but never th

Mystery Greek Signature
Does anybody have any idea whose signature this is on a digipak reissue of El Greco by Vangelis? It is not Vangelis. I thought maybe the director, Iannis Smaragdis, but can’t find any examples online. Thanks folks!

Street Work
Our street is being repaved today, after what feels like months of work. It’s been inconvenient and now the whole house is shaking when the roller goes by. I lived at the end of a dirt road as a kid so this is new for me. As annoying as it is, I appreciate that we are getting a free street! Our tax dollars at work.

Sugar on Apple TV
I am really enjoying Sugar on AppleTV—I am catching up with the first season as it starts its second. The big twist was spoiled for me but it hasn’t detracted from the enjoyment, and might have even helped because I wasn’t thrown for a loop. (I will not say what it is.) Great cast, great L.A. locations, and a great protagonist played by Colin Farrell. Good taste in music too, both the score and needle drops. I am eager to keep watching.

Gen X IP
It’s 2026. Sort of crazy to think about. Let’s put it this way: Raiders of the Lost Ark is set in 1936, was released in 1981 = 45 years. Today, Raiders of the Lost Ark is a 45-year-old movie. Wild. My generation, the Gen Xers, have gone through the entire life cycle of our favorite movies, shows, toys dominating the culture. First it was the stuff we loved as kids. We made it unexpected popular via nostalgia in our twenties. Then it became big business in our thirties and for
